12V Battery Test – Accurate Health Analysis

For best results, disconnect the battery from the vehicle circuitry before testing, as connected systems can influence readings.

Testing Process:

Inspect the battery for visible defects (swelling, cracks, damage).
Connect:
- Red clamp to positive (+)
- Black clamp to negative (–)
Battery voltage is displayed.
Select:
- 12V Battery Test
- Battery type (e.g., Flooded Lead-Acid)
- Applicable rating standard
Enter the battery’s specified CCA rating (e.g., 650 CCA).
Start the test.

The TA-22 compares the measured performance directly to the rated specification, providing:

State of Health (%)
Clear recommendation

If the result is anything other than Good Battery, recharge and retest.

Cranking Test – Starting Performance Check

This test evaluates battery performance during engine start.

Procedure:

Connect clamps to installed battery.
Start the engine when prompted.
The tester automatically performs the analysis.

Important Indicator:

A cranking voltage below 9.6V indicates:
- Weak battery, or
- Underperforming charging system

Charging System Test – Complete Alternator Analysis

This multi-step test evaluates the vehicle’s charging performance under both unloaded and loaded conditions.

Steps:

Connect clamps before starting the engine.
Select:
- Charging Test
- Vehicle system voltage (12V or 24V)
Secure the tester away from moving engine parts.
Start the engine and follow on-screen instructions.

During testing:

Unloaded phase: Turn off all manually controlled systems.
Loaded phase: Turn on all lights and electrical systems.
